Just a couple of months ago, my brother was taken away from me. It was an incredibly painful experience for my entire family and we are still trying to figure out how to get through the days we will have without him. I have found photography to be a powerful healer and comfort during this time.

Going through the photographs I have of him allows me to connect to him and feel better, even if it’s just for a short while. I am so grateful that I have these digital photos. I find that even the simple task of editing these photos is comforting. I recently took photos of him with family and friends and created a Photobook using Snapfish. I plan to give this book to my parents to help them with their grief. I also created a couple of notebooks and mousepads from Snapfish with pictures taken at one of his concerts over the summer (he is a musician).

Photography is a powerful healer. I’d love to hear stories of how photography heals you.

For my parents' 25th wedding anniversary, I scanned photos of their life together, from when they first started dating up through all the years that my brother, sister and I spent torturing them. I took those digital images and made a video slide show, which I set to music and burned to DVD. I also gave copies of the DVD to other people in my family. It was a great gift to give, and one that I watched and enjoyed many times, but when my Dad died, it truly became one of my most prized possessions.

When someone you love passes away, it's important to have things that remind you of them, but it's also important to have a way to share that person with others in your life. When I have kids, they won't have the honor of meeting my Dad, but with thanks to this DVD, and countless other photographs, they will know him and see the kind of father and husband he was.
