I had the opportunity over Labor Day weekend to play around with the HP R937 digital camera, loaned to me by my friend Linda. What’s so significant about this camera? Well, besides being an 8 mega pixel, 3x zoom camera, this thing has a monster LCD on the back. Seriously, it is a beast at 3.6 inches. (No, I didn’t measure it, but the sticker on the camera says it is, so it must be true.)

The reason the screen is so huge is because it is actually a touchscreen camera. Ever seen one of these? It is really cool – especially if you are someone like me who likes to just snap some photos without giving it too much thought. The touchscreen contains all the menu items, so you don’t have to memorize where all the buttons are and what they do. The only buttons on the camera are on/off, video, capture, playback and the zoom. That’s it.

And, as always, the interface is really easy to use. Seriously, no manual is required with this thing – even the most novice users (kids, parents, husbands, whomever) can just pick it up and use it. With the monster LCD, it is actually fun to play around with the photos because you can do everything right there on the camera – before you download it to your PC. I took some photos of my kids and blurred the edges, took out red-eyes, added cool designs – all easy stuff.

Check out the before and after pictures of my daughter and her friend, Nash, riding a ride at the carnival.

I used the design gallery feature, “water color” to give it this really cool look. Sure, you could do that before on other HP cameras, but it is even easier to touch up a photo when you can see it on the bigger LCD screen. I highly recommend it for folks looking for an easy to use, fun camera. And at 8 mega pixels, it takes great photos too!

I have the R937 camera and it's great fun. My kids even gt into the swing of it editing the photo we take. They love it! It's tons of fun and it's really easy to use. The touch screen makes it so convenient! Everyone that sees my camera wants one.
