These are really cute! We did photo bookmarks one year for Dr. Seuss's bday celebration in elementary school - took a pic of each kid with their favorite book and printed them up. The librarian laminated all of them for us.

That's a great idea to take photos of the kid with a book. You could also make different book marks as the kid reaches another level of reading, say maybe 50 books. Then state the reading level on the bookmark. It would be a visual reminder to all of the kid's accomplishment.
