Learn how to make an easy photo cube to display your latest digital photos!
I spend a lot of time taking digital photos at special events I go to. Since there were a lot of fun memories from this summer - Maker Faire, Stitch N' Pitch at the SF Giants, and BlogHer in Chicago, I thought it would be fun to capture some of these favorite photos from this summer and print them into a photo cube that could display nicely on my desk. Using the site Tabblo, I was able to make a fun photo cube in just 15 minutes!
Materials:
5 digital photos
HP Inkjet Photo Paper (Advanced, Glossy) 8 1/2" X 11"
1 pair of scissors
double sided transparent tape
Step 1: Choose 5 of your digital photos you want for your photo cube. (If you can't decide which ones, don't worry, you can always edit out and add photos in later.)
Step 2: Go to the Tabblo site and choose "Start making a Tabblo PhotoCube now".
Step 3: Add your 5 photos and click on the "Upload" button. You can upload your photos from your desktop or choose from other sources such as Picasa, iPhoto, Flickr, and more.
Step 4: Here's where you can have fun. You can zoom in and pan to edit your photos, even add visual effects changing color or adding a cartoon bubble.
Step 5: Download your finished photo cube PDF.
Step 6: Insert your photo paper into your printer face down. I like to use photo paper because of the glossy sheen the cube will have, just like real photos. Plus the photo cube will be easier to construct and will be less flimsy than using regular paper.
Note: Make sure you just print page 1 of the PDF with the photo paper. Page 2 is the folding instructions which you'll want to print on just regular inkjet paper or just refer to on your computer.
Step 7: Start cutting out on all the solid black lines of the photo. (I did this and watch the first episode of Gossip Girl.)
Step 8: Start creasing all the dotted black and white lines and folding the photo cube based on the instructions.
Step 9: To keep the edges straight, I used double sided transparent tape next to the egdes of the cube to keep them together.
Enjoy your finished photo cube! What's great is that you can make new photo cubes whenever you have new photos. It's a fun little reminder at your desk of good times!
