Photo Gift Idea

My life is just too busy to think ahead on buying gifts, and yet my friends and family are important enough to really deserve something special. What to do when you’re down to the wire and you need something fabulous? They know I’m addicted to photos, so it’s no surprise that I turn to my 45 GB of photos for a good gift idea.

Photo Gift Idea - A Wetpaint WIKI: HP CommunityRecently, I’ve added a twist that really adds to the emotion.A few months ago my sister (who has just finished a rough divorce) celebrated a birthday. I took a photo from a recent trip we took together to Carmel and wrote a poem on it. I found the perfect saying on www.quotes.com from Saint Francis. I overlaid it onto this great photo (if I do say so myself) of the Lone Cypress Tree. I printed an 8x10 at home on my HP Photosmart printer, put it in a great frame, and voila … the photo instantly turned into a sentimental surprise. You can do this with any photo editing software by just adding text onto the photo and re-saving as a JPG file. (Hint: don’t overwrite the original photo file). Play around with the fonts to get the mood you want.

Photo Gift Idea - A Wetpaint WIKI: HP CommunityHere’s another example of one I did for my brother after our dad passed away. This one I liked so much I sent it to Snapfish to print on canvas. (That was a tad more expensive than printing at home, but can score big points when you need that perfect gift!). All you have to do is upload your “edited” photo file (the one with the verse on it) to your Snapfish album. It’s not as “instant” as printing at home, but you can get it in a few days, or have it shipped directly to your giftee.

I’m always desperate for “last minute” gift ideas, so let me know if you have any to share!

Thanks! Your sister asked me to come take a look at your blog because we use an awesome tool to send real physical greeting cards as easily as email, and they can be customized with your own images. Your idea is wonderful. In fact, would you mind emailing me one of your creations! I can place it on a card and send it to Linda and yourself. I would love to see how they turn out! It takes a pretty high quality graphic to look best. Thanks again for a wonderful idea. I already thanked your sister for sending me here!

Yesterday I was thinking about what I could do to generate some referral interest in my home which I've just put on the market. I went to the Snapfish website and created a simple postcard using a shot of the front of the house and what I think is a semi-personal note on the back. With a print order of 50 to begin with I'll see if I can generate some word of mouth referral momentum.

Lori great Blog. That is now something I will use with some of my pictures. I also found the Quotes link very useful. Why think it up on your own when someone else already did it for you.
