Use an inkjet printer

HP inkjet printers print evenly on fabric, and all-in-one models even let you scan three-dimensional objects—think leaves, grandma’s bracelet, favorite toys—and print them on fabric for truly unique designs.

TIP: Don’t use a laser printer. The heat will melt iron-on media, and the ink distribution will not yield satisfying results.

Image guidelines

Use high-resolution (300 dpi or greater) digital photos for fabric printing. Text prints well on fabric, but be sure to scan it at 300 dpi or higher. Scanned artwork and clip art are other great options.

Colors on fabric

Since printers don’t print white, the white parts of your design will be the same color as your fabric­—choose accordingly.

Prepping fabric sheets

To prevent paper jams, cut loose threads from the fabric sheets. Then insert into into the printer, one sheet at a time. Also, make sure the leading edge of the fabric is securely bonded to the backing paper before putting it in the printer. And be sure to use only smooth, wrinkle-free sheets.
