In the blink of an eye, my little baby became a full-fledged toddler. She is becoming more and more independent by the day and constantly tests her boundaries. She has even started to care about which outfit I put on her. I usually let her choose between two different outfits and typically she picks the one with the most flowers on it.

Although I still think of her as my little baby, I realize she is growing up fast. I wanted to share one idea I did with my daughter to help keep track of her growth and development over the first 12 months. Being an excited first-time mom, I bought her a little cake and we celebrated her one-month birthday.

From there, I decided to get her a cake and celebrate every month of her first 12 months. We took the photos from the same location each time and the candles helped keep track of which month we were celebrating. I now have all of the photos together in a collage and framed on the wall. I can look at this collage and not only see how much she’s changed over her first year, but also remember some of her key milestones. At a quick glance I can see when she still needed some neck support, when she could sit on her Bumbo chair (I loved the Bumbo chair), when she got her first tooth, etc.

One really easy way to print the photos in this format is to use the HP Photosmart Essentials software, which is available as a free download. This software offers many different print templates, but the one I used is a simple print template with space for six photos. All you have to do is select the photos from each month and then drag and drop them to the photo template. You can also zoom in and out on each photo so you can optimize the parts of the photo you want in the final product.

Once you have these photos, you can do many other projects with them. I made calendars using each of the 12 photos and gave them as gifts to family members. For simplicity, I made my 12” x 12” calendar using the HP Photo Center at my local retail store. You can make a lot of different photo creations such as photo books, posters, greeting cards, and more at your nearest HP Photo Center. Or, if you prefer, you can also order a calendar or other photo projects online using Snapfish.

As I prepare for my second baby, I would love to hear about your creative ways to keep track of your baby’s first 12 months! Please use the comment link below to share your ideas.

Anne, this is such a great idea. I hope you're doing the same with your new baby (I'm assuming it's arrived by now).

I'm a new Mom too, my son is 7 months old now. The other idea I've heard about ... is to take a photo every month (or year ... whatever period of time) of your baby next to an object, like a teddy bear or something. Then you can see how your child grows longer and matures in relationship to their favorite stuffed animal ... first laying with it ... then maybe sitting next to it .... then standing with it .... One of my friends did it ... her child is 5 now. It was pretty cool to see the progression of all the photos.

First off, what a BEAUTFUL baby. Second, this is such a great idea. I have seen it done with women being pregnant, and taking pics every month, but never seen this. What a great idea. Wished I would have thought of it when I had my girls. Maybe the grandkids....someday. :)
