Watercolor Cards

Watercolor Cards - A Wetpaint WIKI: HP Community In this season of gift giving, I can think of nothing more meaningful than sharing a personal creation – something you or your children create from scratch. One of my favorite forms of creative expression is watercolor – you know you've found your passion when you find an endeavor that gets you in the “zone” where you relax and forget all of your stresses, time stands still (you know what I’m taking about?)

Well, watercolor does this for me. I also really enjoy creating gifts for my friends and family. When my Mom was in failing health last year, I mounted and framed her favorite watercolors that I had done a few years earlier– she got great joy in seeing them, pointing them out to her Assisted Care neighbors & visitors – I also think it reminded her of my Dad, who was a prolific painter that passed away earlier that year.
I learned I could do even more with my watercolors, and have since created cards, gift tags and even wrapping paper. I realize I’d better keep my day job, but my family and friends really get a kick out of something that wasn’t store bought, something that is part of me. I’ve created cards using two resources:
1.Watercolor Cards - A Wetpaint WIKI: HP Community HP Activity Center – you can use your photo (or your scanned/photographed artistic creation) and make a customized card – what I like about the Activity Center is that it’s easy & quick (less than 5 minutes), you select your borders and embellishments on the cover and customize the inside message. A nice touch too is that you can have a “created by” message on the back. I used quarter fold paper for this project.

The other approach I use, especially for gift tags and customized size cards, is PowerPoint – yes PowerPoint – there may be some better solutions out there but I have found it to be quick ‘n easy. What I like about it is you can do 3 up, 4 up cards, you can add in your own background color or texture and insert your photo/artistic creation. I used photo gloss paper and matte paper in these examples.

I hope this inspires you to think about how you could create personal cards for your friends and family – look forward to hearing from you!

Love this idea! What a great way to use art over and over. I am thinking about combining this idea with my project gallery post showing a photo of my daughter (ballet dancer) where I used a "watercolor wash" and then printed and framed as art! Since I'm not an artist, this is a way to use photos as the starter, then one of the effects found on your software ... thanks for the idea!
