Wiki Tips: Getting Around
Welcome to the HP Community Wiki. A wiki is special website that you can help build -- a place where you, your friends, and HP can share creative projects and ideas. It's easy to add a page or share a photo, and it's easy to add a friend and to find inspiration. Together, we can create anything. This quick tour will help you learn how to navigate the site, will highlight what sharing and page editing tools are available to you, and it will help you modify your member profile.
What's happening on the HP Community Wiki? These main section links (highlighted within the green box below) are always available at the top of every page. Click on Home to go to the front page of the Community. Participate in a community conversation by clicking on Discussion Forum. Click on What’s New to see the most active sections of the Community. Find other Members and see what they're sharing. And if you’d like to invite friends and family to join the community, click on Invite.
How to start contributing to the HP Community Wiki Want to add a page, or add a comment, or add a photo? It's easy to do, but only HP Community Wiki members can contribute to the site. So join now. Once you're a member, be sure that you're signed in. The editing tools will help you edit pages and add content to the site. First and foremost is the Easy Edit button. By clicking this button, you can edit a page and add or delete content. If you see a lock on the button, it means the page cannot be changed. (See our How to Edit a Page video and tutorial for more details.) To the right of the Easy Edit button, you’ll see a selection of tools. The Edit tags link gives you the ability to add and remove search tags from your page. The Email page link makes it easy to send an email to your friends and family to view the page you want to share. And Add a To-Do let’s you make a note of a correction required for that page. Under More Tools you’ll find other helpful tools such as Watch Page and Add Attachment.
Browsing the wiki The Navigation Menu (area in green box below) is key to browsing and getting to all the different categories on the HP Community Wiki. You'll find the Navigation Menu in the top left corner of every page on the site. Simply click on the page name you want to visit. You can also click the arrow to the left of the text (noted by red pointer below) to reveal all the subjects and contributions from other members that are organized in this category. Use the scroll bar (see area by green arrow below) to find more categories and sub-sections. The Add Page link under the Navigation Menu is your ticket to adding content to the site. Click here to create a brand new page in any section.
At the heart of the matter Each page has a main content section. Below, you see an example from the Home page. The main content section is where you’ll find all the great projects and ideas that inspired you to join the HP Community Wiki in the first place. See what other members have contributed, and then add your own page where you control what's in the main content area. See our How to Add a Page video and tutorial to learn how to add some ideas of your own!
Who is sharing ideas and more? The Top Contributors section on the left side of the every page shows pictures of members who are most active on that page. Be sure to upload your photo or a picture to your Member Profile so you can be featured in this section once you start contributing!
Information about the page you're on Below the content area of each page, you can see statistics associated with its history, including when it was last updated, what member last updated the page, the keyword tags for the page and other information.
What do you have to say? It's easy to start a discussion thread about the contents of a page or reply to comments from other users. This is a great way to start a conversation with the HP Community. Simply click on Post reply to add your thoughts to an existing thread, or click Start thread to start a new discussion.
All about you Click on My Profile to reveal your personal menu and a basic status, including if you have pending Friend Requests and new Messages. Click Profile to go to your own profile page, where you'll find email messages from other members, alerts from the Community, the status of any friends in the Community and other HP Community Wiki features.
| Manage your HP Community Profile From your profile page, you can add and edit information about yourself and customize your wiki experience. Add Friends to your profile – you can also click on any user name to add them as a Friend. Check your Messages. Click Compliments to review compliments you have received and sent.
