Cookbook....
Nov 21 2007, 10:44 AM EST
This is the most amazing thing....I LOVE this idea and can't wait to get started. Cooking is such a passion of mine, I have been saving recipes for years, and its now time to pass them down to my 3 daughters. What a great way to do this. Thanks so much for the idea.!!

Thanks for your comment. I hope you do try the cookbook project. It's incredibly easy to do with the Activity Center project.(By the way: My sisters are really excited and have asked me to create copies of the cookbook for them, too.) I hope you'll share your cookbook here. I'd love to see how you personalize the pages. Take care, Angela 2 out of 2 found this valuable. Do you? |

I am trying to create an heirloom cookbook for my three sisters and my daughter of my late Mother's many favorite recipes. I am in possession of her hand written recipes and want to have each page with the recipe in her handwriting as a watermark background and I'll type out her recipe on top of that. I'm using the program Publisher and each page I make I want a differnet watermark naturally but as I create each page it won't let me change that watermark or if it does, it changes the previous one! I'm a new member of HP Community and pardon me if I'm using the wrong format or not asking the appropriate questions. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated! I've had this on the back burner for years now and wanted to complete it by this Christmas for gifts. Thank you SO much. Gayle Young. (kallmeyounger)

@kallmeyoungerI love your idea. I'm not a Microsoft Publisher expert by any means. But I did find the following tip on the Microsoft Office Online website: http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/publisher/HP012299551033.aspx Add a different watermark to a set of pages When your publication uses only one master page and you add a watermark to that master page, the watermark appears on every page of your publication. To add a watermark that appears on selected pages only, place the text or picture on the publication pages instead of on the master page, and then send the picture or text box to the back. To add a different watermark to a set of pages, such as a chapter or a book signature, create different master pages, insert the appropriate watermark into each master page, and then apply each master page to the appropriate range of publication pages. You can also add a watermark across a two-page master page. Find links to more information about master pages in the See Also section. Tip If a watermark is placed behind other objects on the page, the objects that are hiding it may be opaque. To make an opaque object transparent, click the object to select it (if the object is a table, select the entire table), and then press CTRL+T. If the object is opaque, it becomes transparent; if the object is already transparent, it becomes white. ------------end Otherwise, my best guess would be to create a separate document for each recipe, which would allow you to create one unique watermark for each recipe page. A bit clumsy to be sure, but I think it might work. 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

I haven't tried this project yet as I would rather have a traditional page going in the traditional direction so that it would be easier to use and store on a shelf. Is there anyway to use these models and resize them? Also, I don't see a blank page or one that would be more suitable for non fruit or vegetable recipes such as desserts. Thank you.

Great question about resizing! I'll have to do some research and get back to you on that one.In the meantime, we have lots of other recipe and cookbook projects that you could take a look at to see if any meet your immediate needs. I just happened to find this site and thought I'll a little advice on family cookbooks. I have put together two family cookbooks using Microsoft Publisher. I designed the recipe page and flowed the same page throughout the book. This kept it uniform. I included family stories from family members and photo's throughout the recipes. Some recipes had more than one family member's stories. I would suggest before you begin - start with a notebook and gather your recipes you'd like to include. Then work on writing stories or rememberances for that recipe and what pictures you'd like to include; this will make it easier as you begin and keep you more focased. Design on colors, fonts - I suggest only using two as it gets too busy otherwise. I'm attaching a copy of one of my pages. I'd be happy to send anyone a blank page of my format if you'd like. It did take me quite awhile to finally decide. I like using publisher as I can see my pages, unlike Word. I designed a cover page and saved it in a seperate file. Sometimes the cookbook can get quite large to manage so you might want to make seperate files of A-G ex. Then before you print you make sure all the numbered pages are in order - you will have to make changes if using sperate files. I made an Index page and made sure the recipes corresponded with the page numbers on the index page. I don't see how to make an attachment here, so if anyone wants a blank page of mine let me know here. Good Luck - I'm starting my third family cookbook now.Do you find this valuable? |

I'd be happy to send you a blank page, but it's in Microsoft Publisher format, so you would not be able to open it unless you have publisher program. I did post a sample page of what it looks like on my page. If not email me. Jinsalaco(at)sbcglobal.netDo you find this valuable? |

I attached a sample page of my Publisher format I used for my cookbook. If anyone needs help with publisher, I'd be happy to try and help. By seeing how my page looks, you might want to take it and change to your taste or use it. My front page cookbook is my icon name. I also can post a blank index page is anyone would like to use it. Love to hear from anyone doing a family cookbook. I'm begining a third one.
