How to archive photos across multiple DVDs??
Jan 4 2008, 4:52 PM EST
I have a large number of photos on my external hard drive, and would like to have a copy on DVD also. In the future, I will be sure to make a DVD backup as I go, but how do I copy all of my older photos onto multiple DVDs?? ...or can it even be done, without going through them a few a time? 2  out of 2 found this valuable. Hi Ruby2:
Great question -- I'd like to know the answer, too.
This question may be answered by another community member before I do two things:
1) I'll ensure that your question gets a before our digital photography experts
and
2) I'll do a little bit of investigating around HP.com to see what I can find.
Thanks for asking the community! Let's see what we can do for you.

Hi Ruby2:

Here's what I found this morning:

1) If you're using HP Photosmart Premier, it has a "Backup" feauture that allows you to customize what to copy where. It also has a backup feature that allows you to select to only copy files that are new since your last backup. Watching the demo, it looks as if you can either copy according to the structure you currently have on your external hard drive or simply copy what you want to backup -- in other words, create a new library.

2) You can check out more info on HP.com's HP Digital Photography Center: Organize and Archive Photos:
http://www.hp.com/united-states/consumer/digital_photography/organize_archive_photos/index.html

3) And here's Microsoft Windows instructions on how to create a library:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/digitalphotography/printit/archive.mspx

Hope this helps until we hear back from our community DP experts.

Hello,

Here's a great article that can help you decide how to back up.
http://h71036.www7.hp.com/hho/cache/331544-0-0-225-121.html?jumpid=reg_R1002_USEN

I personally, like using the "Personal Media Drive" much like an external hard drive but powered off of USB so it's simple to connect and disconnect. Since, it works like a hard drive it's easy to organize all my photos in one place and I don't have to manage all those DVDs and I can update as often as I want easily. Here's the link to the one I have, Personal Media Drive 160GB, and I recommend it. http://www.shopping.hp.com/webapp/shopping/product_detail.do?storeName=accessories&landing=desktop&category=desktop_hp&subcat1=storage&orderflow=1&a1=Type+of+product&v1=Personal+media+drives&product_code=GM415AA%23ABA&catLevel=2 Note: There is a 300GB drive too but that one has an AC Power adapter which is fine but I prefer the smaller one powered strictly from my PC via USB. Here's more about the HP Personal Media Drive. http://h71036.www7.hp.com/hho/cache/303356-0-0-225-121.html

However, if you are still into backing up on DVD ... here's an article with some tips for you.

Hope it helps,
