kid's parties

Why not make the party about taking pictures and then seeing their own work. Kids love to take pictures. Take them somewhere fun, perhaps give them a photo scavenger hunt list of things you know they can get pics of and let them sort of loose. They could bring their own cameras or you could provide them. Do you find this valuable?

Great idea! I know my kids love taking photos - and, oddly enough, some of the best photos of me were taken by my kids! I actually used the scavenger hunt idea once when I was hiking with a bunch of kids in the mountains. I knew they would get bored pretty quickly, so I made them team up and look for a list of items that I had prepared beforehand. They loved it! The only problem was that some of the kids couldn't read yet, so they had to rely on the older kids to read the list to them. Imagine how much better it would have been if I had taken pictures of things - red flower, interesting bug, moss, etc - and given them printouts to look at instead! Next time! or give them the list and a camera per team -- you prob have a few old ones lying around, I do -- and have them take pictures of the items. then you have all sorts of possibilities on what to do after -- make a poster per team, just print out each team's favorite for the kids, make a photo book for the birthday child to commemorate the birthday. I just love giving kids cameras and seeing what they do with them.

Though I am not a Mom, I play one one TV. Just kidding! It just occurred to me that you could use the system I mentioned to Lisa to even create and send greeting cards or party mementos right there at the party! My kids love using the SendOutCards system to send cards to people. My daughter especially would love playing with this with her friends at a party! You could send cards with pictures of each scavenger hunt team or see who can creat the funniest greeting card! The system allows you to add thought bubble and voice bubbles and all sorts of things. What fun! Do you find this valuable?

I love the idea of using a scavenger hunt! I got a lot of really great ideas out of Nancy Kruse's book, "Treasure Hunt-A Book of Clues for Parties". My whole family loved it.
